The 2018 World Cup was held in Russia and was the 21st edition of the international soccer tournament. The final was played on July 15, 2018, at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, and pitted France against Croatia.
France, led by their star player and eventual tournament MVP, Kylian Mbappé, had a strong showing throughout the World Cup. They won all three of their group stage matches, defeating Australia, Peru, and Denmark. In the knockout rounds, they defeated Argentina and Uruguay to reach the final.
Croatia, on the other hand, had a more difficult road to the final. They narrowly advanced out of their group, finishing second behind Argentina, and then had to go through three consecutive knockout matches that went to extra time, including a dramatic semifinal victory over England.
The final was a closely contested match, with both teams putting in a strong performance. In the end, however, it was France that came out on top, winning 4-2. Mbappé scored two goals in the match, and Ivan Perisic and Mario Mandzukic scored for Croatia.
