Sacramento Kings Guard Davion Mitchell Expected to Remain with Team Until 2025 Offseason

Sacramento Kings guard Davion Mitchell is currently in the midst of his third season in the National Basketball Association (NBA). With a four-year deal in hand, Mitchell is expected to remain on the Kings' payroll until at least the 2025 offseason. The Kings exercised their club option on Mitchell after his sophomore season. Mitchell was on his rookie-scale contract which, after the club option, amounted to roughly $21 million. Following the upcoming 2024-25 season, Mitchell will be a restricted free agent. As a restricted free agent, Mitchell will be allowed to test the waters and weigh any offers other teams may have for him. However, before he can sign a new contract with another team, the Kings will have the chance to match the offer sheet to bring him back, as was the case with Deandre Ayton during the offseason. Ayton received interest from the Indiana Pacers, but the Phoenix Suns had the option to match the offer and ultimately retained him. While Mitchell's numbers have decreased this season, he remains a valuable asset off the bench for the Kings. The 24-year-old is viewed as a defensive menace, earning the nickname "Off-Night" for his ability to shut down opposing guards. He is strong for his size, agile and not foul-prone, making him a positive addition to the Kings' roster. Mitchell has a lot of potential as a role player off the bench and could be a part of the Kings' future success. The team has started the season strong, taking a surprising 2-0 lead against the Golden State Warriors, much to the surprise of analyst Charles Barkley. As Mitchell continues to develop and improve, fans and analysts alike will be eagerly watching to see how he contributes to the Kings' success, both now and in the future.
