Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards is facing legal action after allegedly assaulting two employees with a folding chair following their series-ending Game 5 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night. According to reports, Edwards threw the chair, hitting both women, and was cited for misdemeanor third-degree assault. Edwards missed a game-tying shot that could have shortened the Wolves' season, and after sprinting to the locker room, he reportedly picked up a folding chair and swung it, hitting a security guard and another employee, both of whom were confirmed to have suffered injuries. No official statement has been released by Edwards or the team, but sources have confirmed that authorities are involved. Denver Police held up the team bus to cite Edwards for assault. Despite the incident, Edwards had an outstanding performance in the five-game series, leading the Wolves with an average of 31.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists, shooting 48.2%, including 34.9% from beyond the arc. In Game 4, he forced a Game 5 with his clutch performance. The Wolves have finally released a statement regarding the incident, saying, "We are aware of the alleged incident regarding Anthony Edwards following Game 5 in Denver and are in the process of gathering more information. We have no further comment at this moment." It was later confirmed that Edwards is due in court for a hearing, which could take place in June. Edwards' performance during the playoffs sent a message to the Wolves' front office to focus on building around him. Since drafting Karl-Anthony Towns, the team has mainly focused on building around the center, but it hasn't worked out well for them, and it's time to build around the young guard. The assault incident with the folding chair could have legal and possibly disciplinary repercussions for Edwards, but it remains to be seen how the situation will play out.
