The Dallas Stars' Jake Oettinger has taken over as the team's No.1 netminder and has not looked back since. In his first playoff series, he absolutely sparkled, with a .954 save percentage and a 1.81 goals-against average. In seven games against the Calgary Flames, Oettinger finished the series with a heroic 64-save performance in a Game 7 overtime loss. Moving into this season, Oettinger continued to impress, posting a 37-11-11 record with a .919 save percentage, tied for sixth in the league. Heading into the Stanley Cup playoffs, the question on everyone's mind was whether or not the youngster could maintain his exceptional performance. Through five games in the first-round series against the Minnesota Wild, Oettinger has won three games and posted a .925 save percentage and 2.18 goals-against average. He has also made remarkable saves in nearly every game. Most recently, in Game 5, Oettinger stopped all 27 shots from the Wild, recording the second playoff shutout of his career. It was also the first shutout recorded by any goalie in the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs. In his 12 career playoff games, Oettinger's resume speaks for itself: a .945 save percentage and an impressive 1.89 goals per game. It is worth noting that he has only been a starting goaltender in the NHL for two seasons. Furthermore, Oettinger's .945 playoff save percentage is the highest among NHL goalies under the age of 24 in over 70 years. Despite attempts by Minnesota Wild fans to get into his head, Oettinger has maintained his focus and even welcomed the taunts from the crowd. In his own words, "It fuels you. That's what you want, that's what you sign up for. It's great." As of now, all signs point to more excellence from the young goaltender. If he continues to play at this level, the Stars will have a legitimate shot at winning the Stanley Cup. The 'Oetter' has truly made a name for himself in the NHL.
