Bianca Andreescu, the Canadian tennis star, was recently in tears during her first practice session after sustaining a severe ankle injury at the 2023 Miami Open. The incident occurred during her match against Russia's Ekaterina Alexandrova, where the 22-year-old rolled her left ankle in the second set, causing her to be wheeled away in a wheelchair in tears. Despite tearing two ligaments in her ankle, Andreescu began rehabilitation just one week after the injury. Recently, Andreescu shared a touching video of herself on the court, tears streaming down her face after her first practice session back. "I am so happy," said a delighted Andreescu. Andreescu kicked off her 2023 season with the Adelaide International, followed by her return to Grand Slam action at the Australian Open, where she suffered a defeat in the second round against Cristina Bucsa. The young player then suffered early exits at both the Abu Dhabi Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships before competing at Indian Wells, where she lost to world No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the second round. Despite these setbacks, Andreescu's most impressive performance was at the Miami Open, where she defeated Emma Raducanu, Maria Sakkari, and Sofia Kenin before facing Alexandrova. After her injury layoff, Andreescu is now getting ready to make her comeback, gearing up for the clay courts as she prepares to compete at the WTA 1000 Madrid Open. The Canadian is set to play her opening match against Chinese tennis player Wang Xiyu on Thursday, April 27. Unfortunately, Andreescu was unable to represent Canada in the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers against Belgium due to her injury, and was eventually replaced by Katherine Sebov. Despite being unfit to play, Andreescu still showed her support for Team Canada by cheering for them from the sidelines. “Everybody knows how to play tennis, everybody knows what to do, it’s more motivational things I would say. You’re doing amazing, keep it up, play with your heart, give everything you have, little things like that,” Andreescu explained about her appearance at the Billie Jean King Cup. As Andreescu prepares to make her return to the court, fans of the young player are eagerly anticipating seeing her play again and hoping for a successful return.
