Your opportunity
Dillon’s Transportation and Facilities technical group is looking for Bridge Construction Observers for various projects in the Alberta, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.
This is a long-term interim position with the opportunity for flexible and remote work arrangements to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life.
This position will support the construction projects commencing in spring/summer of 2023. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience. You will be a key part of our multidisciplinary group serving our private sector.
Responsibilities
Bridge Construction Observer
Perform structural and civil construction observation for the construction of various major and standard bridges, culverts, approach roadways and other civil structures.
Perform construction administration services and coordination including preparing, reviewing, and tracking schedule, day-to-day liaison with contractors and consultants, attending job meetings, preparation of progress payments, meeting minutes, record keeping and reporting.
Coordination, monitoring, and witnessing of required testing activities to ensure that testing is being carried out at the prescribed frequency and that the results meet the contractual requirements.
Review construction documentation including submittal and shop drawing reviews.
Ensure construction compliance to the contractual drawings and specifications.
Perform fabrication plant inspections for structural steel and precast concrete superstructures and substructures.
Provide general construction observation during construction on all construction labor and subcontracted tasks to ensure professional workmanship meet the contractual requirements.
Business travel upon request
Qualifications
A diploma in a related discipline of Engineering Technology or relevant bridge inspection experience.
Minimum of 5 years of related work experience
Experience
Familiarity with one of the following: Alberta/Manitoba/NWT bridge construction specifications and standard best practices.
Ability to read and understand contract drawings and specifications.
Exceptional attention to detail, and problem solving skills using standard engineering methods
Must be capable and willing to work at height, in confined spaces, in all weather conditions, and outside regular business hours as required
Willing to travel regularly to project sites
Experience working independently on construction sites
Experience with Alberta, Manitoba, or NWT guidelines and standards
Knowledge of industry standard contracts and specifications
Additional Experience, certification or Knowledge in the follow categories would be an asset
Certifications for Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (Level I/II Certified Inspector) and American Concrete Institute (Grade I Field Testing Technician)
Ontario Structure Inspection Manual
Survey experience using drones, GPS, total station, or rod and level.
