Position Summary

We are actively recruiting for a Surgery Coordinator  to join our growing team at Midwest Eye Center.

The Surgery Coordinator will be responsible for the following responsibilities: 

  • Arrange surgery date and time with patients.

  • Schedule pre-op and all post visits.

  • Assist patients with financing support by contacting the proper companies and/or giving patients the appropriate information.

  • Perform patient counseling and pre-surgery instructions by answering questions from patients or family members.

  • Discuss different lens options with patients.

  • Performs A-Scan and/or IOL master measurements and calculations.

  • Code and enter charges for surgery billing.

  • Verify insurance coverage with patients.

  • Discusses collection of fees that the patient is responsible for.

  • Call insurance companies to verify benefits and obtain the authorizations or referrals needed.

  • Schedule anesthesia.

  • Prepare orders, IOL powers and paperwork and send to surgical facilities.

  • Prepare patient charts with appropriate paperwork.

  • Prepare IOL worksheets for physicians.




    • Must have the ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact using excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills with patients and co-workers.

    • Intermediate to advance computer knowledge and skills.

    • Must be highly flexible; able to accommodate changing needs of the office.

    • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.

    • Knowledge of basic math and modern office procedures.

    • Intermediate to advanced phone skills.

    • Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision.

    • Proven flexibility and willingness to handle a variety of tasks.

    • Willingness to work longer hours if needed.

    • Knowledge and adherence to HIPAA, COMPLIANCE, OSHA.



    • High school graduate or equivalent.

    • 3 to 5 years of related experience and/or training.

    • Strong knowledge of billing and coding.

    • Knowledge of contracted insurance plans.

    • Knowledge of medical terminology.

    • Bilingual a plus.
