Job Description

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for creating user-focused experiences, optimizing integrations between Therma and third-party hardware/software vendors, and collaborating with our senior technical leaders to innovate upon our core application and public APIs already utilized by millions of daily users. In leading a 6+ person JavaScript engineering team, you will collaborate closely with both our mobile (iOS and Android) and overseas (APAC) development organizations, harness foundational management best practices, and leverage up-to-date industry trends to help to build and foster a world-class engineering organization as the company scales.

This role reports directly to the Director of Engineering and is based out of our US Headquarters located in San Francisco, CA.


$150k – $180k • 0.25% – 0.5% equity 


  • Lead and mentor a 6+ developer team

  • Create design and user-focused experiences

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and advancements

  • Develop standard, scalable and reusable code that can serve as the foundation of future projects

  • Perform tasks accurately and up to our quality standard


  • Lead our JavaScript engineering teams while collaborating closely with our Mobile development team (iOS and Android)

  • Work closely with our overseas team, operating in a 12-8pm PST work schedule as needed

  • Develop and maintain our core application and public APIs for utilization by millions of daily users

  • Develop integrations between Therma and 3rd party hardware and software vendors

  • Collaborate closely with our product team to define technical and non-technical project requirements

  • Own the development lifecycle by leading and mentoring the engineering teams

  • Follow agile principles, measure and improve upon development metrics

  • Optimize apps to improve performance and efficiency

  • Author technical documentation

About You

  • 4+ years of experience building and maintaining full-stack applications

  • 2+ years management experience leading teams within a geographically distributed development environment

  • Advanced proficiency with Node.js, React, and PostgreSQL

  • Fluency in Javascript, HTML, and CSS

  • Intermediate proficiency with AWS and container-based infrastructures (Kubernetes, Docker)

  • Demonstrable experience building publicly-consumable APIs and platforms

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • UX training and working knowledge of PHP preferred

  • Prior experience working within an early-stage technology company environment, preferably within the Enterprise SaaS and/or IoT Hardware space

  • Based in the PST timezone and willing to visit the SF office every 6 weeks
