Senior Editor- Kotaku

G/O Media is the publisher of the web’s most original media brands, including Gizmodo, Kotaku, Lifehacker, Deadspin, Jezebel, Jalopnik, Kotaku, Lifehacker, Quartz, The Root, The Onion, The Takeout and The A.V. Club, and reaches over 120 million unique visitors a month—more than one-third of all Americans. We connect with the young, diverse audiences that are shaping our future. Through fearless journalism, provoking comedy, and high-impact storytelling, we elevate the stories and issues our readers and viewers are passionate about.

About the Role:

Kotaku is looking for an experienced journalist to join our spirited, fast-paced newsroom. You’ll be taking the lead on editorial packages that set the tone of the conversation, and help our readers know what matters most in the world of video games–even if they don’t know it yet. You know how to find compelling angles while deeply reporting business and tech stories, but understand that both come alive when we explore them through the lens of culture. You can spot trends a mile away, but are also invested in helping us find creative, fun ways of doing our own thing.

You’ll help figure out what projects should go on our editorial calendar, come up with stories to fill out the package, and then write and report some of those stories. You’ll also manage the package’s other contributors, which will include both staff and freelancers. This role will be a mix of daily editing alongside multiple long-term projects. You should feel just as comfortable editing a 3,000-word feature about VTubers as you would be writing a concise 300-word item about Mario’s nipples.

This position will be based in Kotaku’s NYC office.

• At least 5 years of experience writing business, technology, or science journalism at a• major print or digital publication• The ability to think quickly, decisively, and creatively in a fast-paced newsroom• environment• Knowledge of journalistic standards, laws, and reporting practices• A good sense of humor and a quick wit are essential• Video experience is a plus

To apply, please submit a resume, a cover letter describing why you’re the right fit for the job, and some clips to things you’ve edited and written.

This role is based in our New York City Office.

This is a position covered under the collective bargaining agreement with the WGA-E.
