POSITION GOAL:This position is responsible for the provision of information and services under the supervision of the VP Medical Services, Health Center Supervisor and Nurse Practitioners.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Most of the work will be performed indoors in a climate controlled work environment. Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents violence, disease or pathogenic substances.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ACCOUNTABILITIES - Medical Assistant Floater:
•Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to workplace values of respect, caring, support, effective communication, teamwork & collaboration, accountability and responsibility; practice these values in relation with internal and external customers.
•Perform basic clerical operations; i.e., answer phones, make appointments, take messages, transferring records for patients to other agency health centers, ensures completion of health center records and required forms.
•Consistently demonstrate the team approach to service delivery and make constructive recommendations for improving team performance.
•Demonstrate understanding and support of the affiliate’s mission and goal.
•Respond to customer requests and inform customers of health center procedures, policies and instructions to include contraceptive supply and other medications/resource materials.
•Explain all FDA approved birth control methods and provide specific instruction on the client’s selected birth control method.
•Inform clients and callers in a non-directive manner (meaning without guidance, suggestion or directing) about all options available to them in the event of an unintended pregnancy and make a referral for service based on the client’s/caller’s decision.
•Refer callers seeking information about abortion to the call center or surgical center.
•Describe the difference between medication and surgical abortion in a non-directive manner.
•Perform medical and social history intake.
•Complete basic lab work and follow procedures required by Standards and Guidelines, State and/or federal licensing entities (i.e. CLIA).
•Demonstrate accountability and responsibility in the work that is completed and tasks that are assigned.
•Demonstrate accountability and responsibility in the flow, tasks, and up keep of the health centers worked in.
•Conduct courteous and confidential customer interviews, and accurately complete all necessary forms on customers.
•Make referrals for additional patient care, when indicated.
•Monitor flow of patient to assist ARNP and expedite service.
•Perform all recordkeeping duties related to patient care with accuracy.
•Demonstrate proficiency in collecting and entering payments and documenting in the computer.
•Assist in maintaining an attractive and comfortable appearance in the health center.
•Perform housekeeping and stocking duties within health center daily, weekly and as needed.
•Consistently meet all customer service standards.
•Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
•Assist in providing additional medical services, once trained and as deemed appropriate.
•Participate in the successful implementation of quality assurance plan, productivity, fiscal goals, and other health center programs (i.e. client donation program).
•Complete HIPAA and OSHA training before training in the health center and within 10 days of hire.
•Complete required training – Orientation Checklist, Talking about Abortion, Do’s & Don’ts of Documentation, Managing Suspicious Encounters, Mandatory Reporting, Observation Tool, in addition to other trainings deemed necessary – within the first 90 days of employment.
•Attend staff and in-service meetings.
•100 % travel required across Martin, Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade Counties.
•Coverage will be up to 4 different Health Centers across 2 different counties.
•Assist with other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions and Requirements for Medical Assistants who perform the specialized services of ultrasound:
•Must meet requirements outlined in PPSENFL Medical Standards and Guidelines for ultrasound in abortion services.
•Must successfully complete “Ultrasound in Abortion Care” training available on the extranet.
•Must be granted clinical privileges by PPSENFL Medical Director or Associate Medical Director.
•Must follow PPSENFL protocols in providing this service.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
High School graduate or equivalent. A minimum of one (1) year of experience or equivalent. Medical care and reproductive rights experienced helpful. Experience in dealing with the public. Computer knowledge. The ability to learn ultrasound, surgical assistance and AB lab as well as other skill enhancements at the discretion of the affiliate.
