Junior Planner


Public Works – Development Services


Two (2) Permanent Regular Full-Time


 


Reporting to the Manager, Development Services you will be responsible for the processing of development applications, special projects, continuous improvement initiatives, routine file management and data entry.


 


Your responsibilities will include:



  • Review and coordinate consolidated Regional recommendations on minor development applications including minor Official Plan Amendments, re-zonings, site plans, plans of subdivision and condominium to the approval authority regarding development applications

  • Preserve Regional and Provincial interest in the consideration of development applications

  • Work in collaboration with planners and other professionals from other Regional departments, area municipalities within and outside the Peel Region and other review agencies

  • Attend and participate in local and regional public meetings, area municipal planning initiatives, and corporate initiatives

  • Participate in a variety of special projects related to monitoring and improving processes, growth management tracking, monitoring and reporting, providing advice and service to Regional departments as planning consultant on regional development submissions

  • Conduct site inspections of development properties or areas

  • Respond to inquiries from area municipalities and other public agencies, developers, consultants, lawyers and the general public to give advice on the planning process and approvals

  • Participate in meetings with staff from area municipalities, the Province and other review agencies, developers and consultants to represent Regional interests and mediate settlement of issues relating to development approvals

  • Attend and participate in area municipal planning initiatives, and corporate initiatives

  • Maintain good working relationships with Planning Departments of the assigned area municipality

  • Prepare reports for Council, Local Municipalities and Public


 


What do we require:



  • University Degree planning plus knowledge in the planning field such as environmental,resources, urban or rural, and/or land use planning, or an quivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered

  • Provisional Membership in Ontario Professional Planners Institute/Canadian Institute of Canada (or eligibility for membership)


  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in planning and ArcGIS or other related planning spatial technology

  • Knowledge and understanding of Provincial, GTA, regional and local planning issues

  • Working knowledge of the Regional and Local Official Plans, the Provincial Policy Statement, the Planning Act and other legislation related to land use planning

  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team setting with tact and diplomacy

  • Strong communication, analytical, problem solving, and negotiating skills


 


Location: In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 10 Peel Center Drive, Brampton worksite.  The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario. 


Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
