Job Description

Role Summary:
This is an opportunity in the exciting and fast-growing transportation technology industry. Public transit is being transformed from a system of static, scheduled fixed-routes, to a dynamic on-demand network, and you will be one of the pioneers shaping this transformation.
As a member of our Algorithms & Optimization team, you will help to build the next generation of the suite of algorithms that powers RideCo’s core ridesharing platform. The ideal candidate must possess a sound grasp of Algorithms and Data Structures, strong critical thinking and reasoning skills, and take pride in writing creative, efficient, maintainable code.
At RideCo you will be focused on building the next generation of solutions within the RideCo platform, striving to push system performance to its absolute limits. You will drive initiatives that will see our platform to next-level scale.
You will:

Lead the way forward in developing tooling and best practices around new C++ projects.
Drive initiatives to build robust API compatible versions of existing components in C++.
Optimize existing code to push performance to its limit, keeping maintainability and testability in mind.
Participate in code reviews and design discussions, raising awareness within the team of performance challenges.
Participate in the development of features for new and existing components.
Drive long term system stability and performance improvement initiatives.

Mapping/Routing: OpenStreetMap, Open Source Routing Machine, Traffic forecasting algorithms
Infrastructure: AWS, Terraform, Redis, PostgreSQL, Celery, RabbitMQ
Health/Monitoring: AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana
Development Processes: Agile, continuous integration, Jenkins, zero-downtime software updates

Qualifications and Experience:

Minimum 4 years of experience programming in C++
A deep and intuitive understanding of Algorithms and Data Structures.
Past experience building or maintaining a scalable public-facing system with compute-intensive workloads.
A willingness to share knowledge with junior engineers on industry best practices.

Seeking candidates with expertise in two or more of the following:

High performance computing applications
Bridging Python and C++ applications (Cython, ctypes, etc.)
Combinatorics and Discrete Optimization
Distributed computing / Web Scale architectures.


Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline and 5+ years of experience in Software Development. Past experience building or maintaining a scalable public-facing system with compute-intensive workloads.

Compensation and benefits:

Base Salary: $110K to $140K based on experience + stock options or performance-based bonus

RideCo powers on-demand transit. Public transit agencies use RideCo's cloud-based software platform to provide on-demand shared rides in dynamically routed buses and vans.
