Job Description

Overview


We are currently searching for a Biological Scientist to perform a wide range of standard and custom laboratory techniques and independent research under the supervision and guidance of the NINDS Director and Manager of the Flow and Imaging Cytometry Core Facility. This opportunity is full-time, and it is on site in Bethesda, MD.  


 


Duties & Responsibilities



  • Microscopy (brightfield, epifluorescence, confocal, light sheet), and flow cytometry

  • Tissue clearing protocols, in situ hybridization using RNAscope™ HiPlex and related assays, tissue dissection, and tissue/cell culture

  • Perform histology, antibody validation, immuno-histochemistry (IHC), and multiplex immunofluorescence (MF-IHC) biomarker screening

  • Basic animal handling (rats and mice) and standard chromogenic and fluorescence IHC techniques

  • Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings

  • Collect and analyze biological data about relationships among and between organisms and their environment

  • Monitor and observe experiments, recording production and test data for evaluation by research personnel

  • Coordinate the work of biological technicians and technologists and other scientists

  • Operate, calibrate, or maintain equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis, such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, or computer-controlled analyzers

  • Operate laboratory equipment to analyze samples

  • Analyze laboratory findings and maintain laboratory equipment

  • Program and use computers to store, process, and analyze data

  • Monitor operational procedures in technical environments to ensure conformance to standards

  • Interpret, record, and research operational data

Qualifications:



  • Master’s degree in Biology or related field with laboratory-based training

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience

    • Performing histology, antibody validation, immuno-histochemistry (IHC), and multiplex immunofluorescence (MF-IHC) biomarker screening

    • In tissue clearing protocols, in situ hybridization using RNAscope™ HiPlex and related assays, tissue dissection, and tissue/cell culture

    • With basic animal handling (rats and mice) and standard chromogenic and fluorescence IHC techniques

    • In microscopy (brightfield, epifluorescence, confocal, light sheet), and flow cytometry
