Join the University of Chicago Medicine as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) for our Liver Transplant and Vascular service


The Advanced Practice Provider will be responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management and will manage a caseload of patients by exercising autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The APP will provide healthcare and patient services that may include educational, research, and clinical nursing specialist support, as well as complete administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Director/leadership. The APP has acquired the knowledge, skills, and judgment necessary to assist the physician through organized instruction and supervised practice.


The Liver Transplant and Vascular APP will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the transplant day team with post-op checks and care for all abdominal transplant patients

  • Admitting patients who come in during the night shift

  • Consulting with fellows and attendings both inside and outside the department to provide seamless patient care

  • Communicate patient needs to ensure top notch care

Advanced Practice Provider Essential Job Functions

  • Taking patient history, conducting examinations, diagnosing illness

  • Pre- and post-operative patient evaluation and ordering and interpreting laboratory tests

  • Ability to exercise autonomy in medical decision-making, provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services

 Nurse Practitioner Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master of Science in Nursing 

  • Current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois RN and APN licensure/registration 

  • Must be certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the ANCC or AANP

  • Must have or be able to qualify for Illinois and DEA prescribing numbers

  • At least 1 year of inpatient experience perferred

  • Previous oncology experience preferred

  • Acute Care preferred

Physician Assistant Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited (physician assistant) educational program 

  • Certification in ACLS and by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and current and/or eligibility for State of Illinois licensure/registration

  • At least 1 year of inpatient experience preferred

  • Previous oncology experience preferred
