Loss Control Supervisor

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:The Loss Control Supervisor represents the Company in communications and meetings with insurance brokers and broker Loss Control representatives. This individual will be responsible for the oversight and development of a team of Loss Control Specialists to ensure quality service to all customers within an assigned territory. The Loss Control Supervisor will also be responsible to monitor their team’s service delivery, including service plan approval, training, mitigation of costs, and quality control assessment and improvement. \nReview Underwriting requests for Loss Control and oversee the assignment of work to staff. Substitute for Loss Control Manager (LCM) when needed.Conduct surveys and service visits to assigned accounts. Assist LCM/staff in identifying service needs of new customers and special requests by brokers. Assist LCM in responding to questions and concerns from underwriters, wholesale and retail brokers, broker loss control representatives, and customers.Investigate complaints from customers, brokers, and underwriters. Review the completed work product on record for Loss Control staff to determine if plans and executed work conforms to guidelines.Approve service plans for technical merit, budget, and objectives that conform to Loss Control Operational Guidelines.Review completed work product and conduct quality reviews and evaluations of assigned employees. Periodically accompany assigned staff during their field visits to observe technical competencies, communications, and customer service skills.Prepare action/improvement plans to correct documented performance or technical deficiencies; Advise of progress on action plans, especially as it relates to specific accounts that are experiencing claim activity and requiring immediate action by Loss Control to mitigate loss development, in partnership with Underwriting and other internal resources. On a daily basis, provide direction, serve as a resource and advise assigned employees to achieve improved Loss Control performance. May include implementing career development plans for employee trainees that require expansion of skill set.Conduct technical training for assigned staff. Provide users training on the Loss Control online report system and assist in the identification, reporting, and follow-up on system errors and bugs.Prepare routine management reports for assigned book of business or territory per guidelines.Provide input for the annual Budget and Performance Review process of the assigned team.Leadership - Provides strong leadership, sets a good example, skilled decision-maker and motivator. HOW YOU'D FIT INEDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university required. Advanced degree in occupational safety/health or related field preferred, but not a requirement. EXPERIENCE: 10 years related safety experience, with at least 5 years as an insurance field Loss Control professional with at least 3 years at a Sr. Loss Control Specialist level. LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write and critique detailed reports that describe the operations, exposures and controls of a wide array of industries. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.MATH ABILITY: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.TECHNICAL SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of a wide range of industrial operations and employee exposures to occupational hazards. The individual must have knowledge of and ability to execute appropriate management controls on exposures, and be familiar with applicable codes, laws and regulations. Individual should have knowledge of office operations, workflow analysis, and current technologies in telecommunications, data entry and file management.COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft word processing software; Microsoft spreadsheet software; and be proficient on applicable databases, systems and vendor software programs.CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE), or Certified Industrial Ergonomist (CIE) preferred, but not a requirement.\n
