Software Development Intern

We are looking for a sharp and motivated Software Development Intern to join our fast-paced, rapidly-growing startup in Raleigh, NC.

Our paid interns solve real business problems and work on high-impact projects. We’ll have you with us part-time (~20 hours per week) during your academic semester, and the ideal candidate is in a final year STEM degree program, and is seeking full time employment upon graduation.

Relay, Inc. is changing the way we communicate. We've designed, built, and launched an entirely new product category -- a simple, rugged, Internet-enabled smart-device and all the software that runs it -- that is disrupting the handheld radio industry for B2B clients and non-desk workers.

We are a company filled with people who are passionate about our product and seek to deliver the best experience for our customers. As we scale, we are ultra-focused on product quality, user experience, and engagement. You'll work side by side with our Senior Software Developers and Senior Director, Software Engineering to develop software solutions for our back office systems, APIs, and 3rd party integrations.

We are a small team that works best in-person and believe in the power of serendipity when it comes to in-office communication -- sometimes our best ideas are sparked by chats at the proverbial (or actual) water cooler. Primary Responsibilities

You will work with our Business Technology Systems team to build our next generation of software and services.

As an intern, you will develop Java web applications with Amazon Web Services that power our backend systems.

Working under the guidance of Senior SW Developers, you work on building APIs, internal applications, and integrations with 3rd party providers (for things like billing, logistics, customer service)

Required Skills

Strong software design educational foundation with a demonstrated foundational understanding of object oriented programming fundamentals and design patterns and database systems.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with fellow team members and stakeholders

Curiosity and the ability to ask the right questions

Strong self-motivation and willingness to tackle challenging problems.

Ability to multitask, work and communicate in a fast paced environment.

Problem solver who can work autonomously and is self-driven, creative, and proactive

Good time management; a fast, decent, and maintainable solution is often far better than a slow, perfect, complex solution

Education

Actively enrolled and pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree, ideally working towards a degree in Computer Science
