AWS Cloud Engineer

Responsibilities

Our Health team is seeking an AWS Cloud Engineer to provide operational support for a vendor Software-as-a-Solution (SaaS) offering with our Department of Veterans Affairs research client. The cloud SA will collaborate with other engineering teams (database administration, network operations and applications development) to manage and monitor the SaaS infrastructure, data availability, and the server and enterprise IT Storage Area Network (SAN) retention/recovery backup solutions for reliability and uptime. The SAN is used for VA customer data management, high transaction database processing and storage.

Responsibilities:

Provide technical expertise on cloud cluster computing techniques and technologies and expert advice to the program, and related cloud computing architectures

Apply expert knowledge in computer science, particularly in AWS cloud computing environments.

Optimize AWS Cloud CPU, disk space, and memory management identifying the best ways to develop distributed cluster-enabled and graph processing algorithms

Assist customers with data integration and migration efforts, including mapping schemas, performing RDF translations, and defining domain specific ontologies, where applicable

Develop large data technologies, algorithms, and applications for clients

Research, evaluate, and deploy advanced cloud computing systems and large data analytics for clients in research and production areas

Work with massive data sets, complex algorithms, and team members from a variety of specialties to solve clients' hardest problems

Support a range of clients from front line analysts to researchers and senior leadership

Work as a key contributor on a collaborative, fast-growing, and highly skilled software development team. Experience with information extraction and analysis techniques, practices, and algorithms

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

BS 5-7 years, MS 3-5, PhD 0-2

Required 5 years of hands-on experience building and maintaining AWS infrastructure services with BS/BA; 8-10 years experience with no degree

Understanding of the Amazon Web Services Well Architected Framework

The ability to script and/or automate common repeatable tasks such as patching and backups of the OS

Understanding of AWS storage concepts (S3, EBS, incremental volume snapshots & ami management)

Experience with network integration and cloud connectivity

Knowledgeable on AWS load balancing and Auto scaling technologies

Experience with automating server configuration for security including logging, key changes, and system hardening

Must be able to achieve a VA Position of Trust

Preferred Qualifications:

Practical skill supporting Linux based servers (Ubuntu preferred)

Familiarity with DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD processes and tools

Experience with tools like Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins

Hold current AWS Associate level certifications

Salary RangeSalary Minimum: $57,500 Salary Mid: $115,000 Salary Maximum: $143,800 The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position, and is just one component of Peraton's total compensation package for employees.
