Underwriting Supervisor

Description

Directs a team of underwriting professionals in the day-to-day activities and procedures of underwriting. Has responsibility for the performance, development, and coaching of direct reports. Also contributes to the growth and profitability of assigned product line(s) through marketing, underwriting and managing of products and services of complex risks. Requires extensive level of technical knowledge of underwriting concepts, practices, procedures and techniques to include coverage issues, product lines, marketing, relevant systems, and competition in the market place.

Responsibilities

Hire, supervise, monitor, control, assign, train, and evaluate the work of the underwriting staff

Reviews, rates and underwrites targeted new business and renewal accounts at the direction of the Underwriting Manager

Reviews and negotiates policy terms and conditions with assistance from the Underwriting Manager

Establishes and maintains relationships with the brokerage community to facilitate marketing of LIU products and services

Makes marketing calls to brokers and prospective insureds, generally with the assistance of Underwriting Manager

Communicates with other product line underwriters and claims analysts in order to provide comprehensive customer service

Perform related duties as requested to include, report preparation, presentations, and special projects to assist in ensuring the success of the product line unit

Qualifications

Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience

In addition, 6+ years of progressively more responsible production underwriting work experience required including knowledge of underwriting rules and guidelines, and insurance laws and regulations

Excellent written and oral communication, analytical and management skills also required
