
Senior Counsel, Litigation
We’re looking for Discord’s first litigation counsel. Reporting to the Senior Director of Litigation and IP, you’ll use your creativity and hands-on approach to advance Discord’s interests when things get adversarial. From pre-litigation contract disputes to complex and business-critical matters, you’ll develop processes for handling routine issues, and novel theories on cutting-edge questions. You’ll play a critical role on Discord’s growing legal team and collaborate with colleagues throughout the company as you successfully advocate for Discord.
What you’ll be doing:
Advance Discord’s interests in disputes of all shapes and sizes
Help define proactive litigation targets for Discord
Learn how disputes arise and identify ways to pre-empt them
Supervise and collaborate with outside counsel on complex matters
Build systems for efficient e-discovery
Monitor new and changing laws and anticipate evolving liability and risk
Depending on overall workload and interest, you may help with Discord’s regulatory responses
What you should have:
JD from an accredited law school
Admission to the California Bar or eligible to register as in-house counsel with the California Bar
4+ years working in litigation (especially if related to Internet regulation, e.g., privacy, consumer protection, CDA 230, DMCA)
Curiosity and ability to jump into less familiar areas and learn while doing
Experience with scaling processes and procedures for a fast-growing company
Demonstrated experience managing projects, prioritizing, and consistently achieving results
Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and belonging
Excellent writer and communicator who can tailor the message to the audience
Attitude of open-mindedness, collaboration, flexibility, and always questioning your assumptions
Appreciation for the humor in the absurd
Nice to have:
Experience with online content moderation
In-house experience at a consumer-facing technology platform
