About this role

The Counselor Hampstead establishes a therapeutic relationship with assigned patients and facilitates the maintenance of the therapeutic environment in the psychiatric unit. The Counselor also provides basic patient care services and maintains a clean and orderly work environment.

What you bring to the table

Education

Associate/Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field, or relevant mental health experience in lieu of a college degree.

Experience

Previous experience within a psychiatric setting is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

CPR Certification (within 3 months of hire)

CPI Certification (within 3 months of hire)

Compliance

Corporate Compliance (within 2 months of hire)

What you will do

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tasked with establishing a therapeutic relationship with assigned patients.

Participate in the development of patient treatment programs.

Develop and updates plans of care as assigned by treatment team.

Provide therapeutic and activity groups for the patient.

Assist the patient with routine activities of daily living.

Conducts enhanced monitoring for patient safety, as assigned.

Escorts patients, as necessary.

Maintain current knowledge in the field of psychiatric care.

Maintain an orderly work environment.

Communicate appropriately with nursing staff, physicians, and outside referral agencies.

Satisfactorily perform medical record and other documentation in accordance with all Joint Commission, State Licensing, and Medicare standards applicable.

Promote the hospital culture of patient safety in a non-punitive atmosphere; immediately report medical errors and significant events to nurse in charge; participate in hospital safety training programs and Performance Improvement activities.
