Axle Informatics is a bioinformatics and information technology company that offers innovative computer services, informatics, and enterprise solutions to research centers and healthcare organizations around the globe. With experts in software engineering, bioinformatics and program management, we focus on developing and applying technology tools and techniques to empower decision-making and accelerate the discovery in translational research. We work with some of the top research organizations and facilities in the country including multiple institutes at the National Institutes of health (NIH).

Axle Informatics is currently seeking to hire a Web Developer to support our work at the NIH. The ideal candidate has a thorough understanding of general web development standards and best practices as well as experience with the WordPress platform. Strong front-end web development skills, an eye for design, organizational skills and adaptability are crucial to success in this position. This position reports to the Websites Development Manager.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with team and project stakeholders to ensure requirements are being met

Develop and extend WordPress solutions to support scientific and administrative client needs

Customize WordPress Admin with intuitive data input and content management features

Perform routine updates to WordPress core, plugins, and other dependencies

Monitor existing sites for opportunities for improvement and optimization

Provide end-user WordPress technical support, instruction, and troubleshooting

Test all new and existing sites for performance, scalability, accessibility, and security

Ensure compliance with all coding standards and Web Accessibility (508) mandates

Stay up to date on the latest community trends and make recommendations to the team

Required Skills

3+ years of experience building responsive websites

1+ year of experience building in WordPress

Experience with JavaScript, HTML and CSS as well as frameworks Bootstrap and jQuery

Familiarity with industry utilized package managers and task runners

Experience with source control systems such as Git and Github

Familiarity with WordPress theme development practices

Knowledge of general best practices in web development, security, and scalability

Experience converting visual assets into clean, commented, valid code

Meticulous attention to detail and problem-solving mentality

Should be a clear communicator, a self-starter, an open collaborator and deadline-oriented

Desired Skills

Experience with PHP

Experience administering and configuring WordPress single and multi-site installs

Experience with Docker, WP CLI, Rest API

Experience leveraging Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) and other well-known plugins

Knowledge of Agile Methodology and project tracking tools such as JIRA
