Android Engineer


You'll work in a team of open-source engineers, maintaining and improving the libraries that go into our customers' apps to capture the crucial diagnostics they rely on for debugging when things go wrong.

You will get to maintain our Android SDK on GitHub as well as design and build new product features.

As well as working in native Android – Java, Kotlin as well as C – we’ll give you experience in a growing number of frameworks, such as React Native, Flutter, Unity and Unreal Engine.

About the role:

As an Android Engineer at SmartBear, you'll work in a team of open-source engineers, maintaining and improving the libraries that go into our customers' apps to capture the crucial diagnostics they rely on for debugging when things go wrong. Our SDKs are installed in thousands of apps worldwide and used by many big-name software companies. Our team is growing, and we're taking on bold challenges every day

Help maintain our Android open source library and associated tools on Github.

Improve the product by tracking down and fixing issues faced by our customers.

Work on Android development through cross-platform frameworks such as React Native, Unity, Unreal Engine and Flutter.

Design and build new product features and investigate new framework and platform integrations.

Work alongside, and review contributions from, other open source engineers in on our web server and native mobile/desktop libraries.

We are looking for someone who has:

A strong background in software development (minimum 3 years) and Android development (minimum 1 year) in Java and Kotlin.

A good understanding of the JVM and the Android runtime.

A systematic approach to problem solving and an eagerness to learn new skills and embrace new technologies.

Enthusiastic team participation with strong interpersonal and formal communication skills.

You may also have:

Familiarity with Gradle and the Android Gradle Plugin.

Experience of low-level NDK/C development.

Experience of iOS/macOS, React Native or JavaScript development.

Experience of other cross-platform frameworks (e.g. Unity, Unreal Engine or Flutter).

Experience with error and performance monitoring libraries.

History of open source contributions or SDK/API maintenance.
