Pharmacy IV Technician - PRN - (40 Hours a paycheck)

Overview

Symbria Rx Services at our Woodridge, IL location is seeking a team oriented, experienced Pharmacy IV Technician who shares our commitment to ensuring the health and wellness of seniors. The Ideal candidate will be a tech savvy, quick study with the ability to wear multiple hats.

POSITION SUMMARYThe primary purpose of this position is to assist the IV Workflow Supervisor and/or Pharmacist in the preparation of IV medications for distribution to Long-Term Care (LTC) communities based on physician orders, achieved by following departmental policies and procedures within the scope of pharmacy standards.

Working Hours:

Monday, Wednesday, and every other Friday from 3:00 PM-11:30 PM

Open to work weekends, and PTO coverage.

40 hours a paycheck.

Responsibilities

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists the pharmacist(s) on duty as their primary responsibility; performing these duties as priority.

Process IV orders through the pharmacy software system.

Prepare IV solutions, including calculation and compounding of IV’s according to physician’s prescription with 100% accuracy.

Set up new IV compounds in the pharmacy software system utilizing the IV price code table.

Create and maintain resident IV folder in the paperless software system.

Follow aseptic technique while compounding in IV hood.

Track usage of IV pumps sent to communities and arrange for retrieval.

Properly dispose of expired/returned IV solutions.

Meet daily deadlines of scheduled medication deliveries.

Assist and maintain accurate IV inventory.

Submit daily insurance claims and adjudicate any IV rejections.

Maintain daily, weekly and monthly cleaning responsibilities that are in compliance with the standard 797 codes for IV Room maintenance.

Complete IV room and temperature logs with 100% accuracy.

Develop and enter new IV compounds into framework database.

Fills orders accurately and efficiently in a timely manner, under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Develops knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures and complies with them.

Assists in toting area for medication deliveries as necessary.

Assisting Pharmacy Technicians with duties as needed.

Any and all duties as assigned by pharmacists or managers.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

High School diploma or general education degree (GED).

Illinois Pharmacy Technician license and Certification (CPhT) as per state requirements.

Knowledge of business English, spelling and commercial arithmetic with ability to write in a clear and legible manner.

Excellent professional phone and customer service skills.

Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions.

General computer knowledge including Windows applications.

Understanding of minor calculations regarding compounds and IV’s.

Demonstrated ability to know abbreviations, brand and generic comparisons for interpreting prescriptions and for filling.

Ability to research and interpret IV compatibility and stability.

Pharmacy experience; minimum one year.

IV experience; minimum one year.

Ability to work in a flexible schedule as 24/7/365 operational needs dictate, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
