The Opportunity

Daikin Comfort Technologies Manufacturing, L.P. is seeking a professional, skilled individual for our Engineer, Design 4 position located at our DTTP - Waller, TX location. The Principal Electrical Engineer supports the Advanced Technology, Design and Development Engineering Team. Is responsible for the design specification, the root cause analysis, and the production implementation of all Electrical Components including Motors, Contactors, Capacitors, Control Boards, Thermistors, and Electric Heats used in HVAC systems, including outdoor condensers, heat pumps, indoor air handlers, and furnaces for both Residential and Commercial products. The Principal Engineer is the Subject Matter Expert. The Engineer leads Engineering in the Advanced Design, Component Selection, Root Cause Analysis, Lessons Learned, Best Practices, and Standard Work. The Engineer must be a hands-on practical engineer with the ability to solve complex Electrical Problems quickly and effectively. Daikin Texas Technology Park- has a footprint of 4.23 million square feet under a single roof, and is the third largest factory in the United States. Opened in 2017 as the manufacturing, logistics, and engineering center for Daikin's American subsidiary Goodman, the plant makes heating and air conditioning products sold under the Goodman, Amana, and Daikin brands.

May include;

Design and Select Electrical Components and Resolve Electrical problems in all HVAC products, including outdoor condensers & heat pumps and indoor air handlers & furnaces for both Residential & Commercial products

Apply DMAIC methodology to effectively Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control Major Electrical problems. The engineer must have a strong competency in the lab measurement and in the root cause analysis

Mentor and educate a team of engineers on best practices and applications

Lead Engineering in Electrical Component Problem Solving, Lessons Learned, Best Practices, and Standard Work.

Collaborate with different functional groups on projects relating to Efficiency, Quality, and Cost improvements

Take proper actions to bring necessary changes to production with a sense of Urgency

Work effectively with Experts within the Company and other Organizations to gather the necessary skills tools, and design expertise

Identify, implement and drive continuous improvement processes

Participate in additional projects to support ongoing business needs


Nature & Scope:

May provide guidance, knowledge advisor and mentor

Works with the Design Engineering team to develop and sustain residential and/or commercial HVAC-related products

Responsibilities include the design, analysis, & documentation of those products and their internal components

Knowledge & Skills:

Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of mechanical design theory and practice

Experience with design for six sigma (DFSS), design failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA), design of experiments methodology, tolerance analysis, value engineering principles, and parts standardization principles

Experience with engineering change processes and CAD systems

Knowledge of specifications and standards used in the HVAC industry

Software skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project

Effective analytical and problem-solving skills

Effective organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and complete projects on time

Strong team player, results orientated, dedication to excellence & sense of urgency to achieve business objectives

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to include listening

Effective project management and change management skills

Ability to use good judgement and strong work ethics and integrity on the job

Ability to establish positive working relationships with internal and external customers and employees


10 + years preferably in a high volume HVAC manufacturing environment

6 + years of experience with product design in the automotive, appliance, or HVAC industry


Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

Black Belt or Green Belt certification - preferred
