STAFFING COORDINATOR

Overview

Responsible for entering patient care units' nursing schedules into the computer system. Obtains daily staffing information from the patient care units. Coordinates staffing on a projected and shift by shift basis. Assigns staff to cover vacation and sick time. Assigns staff from the float pool. Performs minor secretarial duties.

Responsibilities

Enters patient care units' nursing staff schedules into the computer system.

Schedules/assigns nursing staff to cover vacation time and sick time.

Assigns nursing staff in the float pool where needed.

Calls in nursing staff when additional staffing is needed.

Calls off per diem nursing staff when over scheduled.

Bases staffing levels on patient acuity per hospital policy.

Ensures weekend and holiday schedules are updated in the computer.

Enters and maintains time care/electronic attendance for staff in department.

Obtains copies of valid licenses for registry and contract staff.

Provides registry and contract staff with orientation packet.

Demonstrates professional, courteous phone manners

Has a good working relationship within the department, with the Nurse Managers and other departments.

Demonstrates the ability to work independently.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

High School graduate or equivalent.

Experience:

Minimum one (1) year experience in a healthcare facility.

Knowledge and Skills:

Able to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.

Additional languages preferred.

Excellent communication skills.

Good computer knowledge, familiar with scheduling and word processing programs.

Able to type 40 wpm.

Physical Requirements:

Involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing and bending.

May include some repetitive motions.
