Lab Director - Discovery Laboratory

Overview:

The Director of the Discovery Laboratory at the Molecular Imaging Center (MIC) in San Diego will provide overall leadership responsibility for the Biology (ACF, in vivo and Imaging) and Chemistry functions at the MIC facility. The post holder will be overall responsible for daily operations, management of the onsite team and execution and delivery of preclinical studies for the DPS business unit. The Laboratory Director will work with and report into the Laboratory Director of the Needham facility to ensure cross-site collaboration and harmonization.

Responsibilities:

Provide leadership to the Biology and Chemistry functions based at the MIC facility

Actively participate in relevant DPS meetings across the wider organization

Ensure operational and strategic alignment with the other Invicro laboratory operations to ensure standardized procedures and quality controls are established and maintained

Ensure operational and strategic alignment with the DPS leadership

Ensure full regulatory compliance in the Biology and Chemistry areas

Ensure all Biology and Chemistry projects are delivered as promised to the customer in an efficient and effective way

Provide leadership to an interdisciplinary team of highly skilled biologists and chemists at BSc, MSc and PhD level or equivalent

Line manage the Chemist(s) and senior members of the Biology team.

Work closely with and report into Director, Discovery Laboratory Needham to ensure efficient and harmonized laboratory operations

Implement an effective and efficient framework to ensure biology and chemistry studies are prioritized, managed and delivered to agreed timelines and high-quality

Manage budget and spend of MIC facility in partnership with DPS leadership

Maintain and build successful relationships with key internal stakeholders

Maintain and build successful customer relations with existing and new external commercial and academic relations

Work closely with the VP, Non-clinical Research Services & VP, Discovery & Preclinical Services to attract/retain both new commercial and academic business opportunities

Identify, develop, implement and support added value technologies to expand Invicro’s service offering aligned with the business strategy

Develop and maintain necessary expertise to meet Invicro’s business requirements

Enhance the international standing of Invicro through publication of innovative work in journals with high impact factor and through presentation of innovative work at leading conferences

Qualifications and Skills:

PhD or alternative and demonstrably suitable skill set appropriate for the role

Excellent knowledge of biology and chemistry techniques as applied to commercial and academic imaging research

More than 5 years in a preclinical imaging laboratory and personnel management role

Experience in preclinical animal models

Experience in preclinical nuclear imaging and/or MR imaging

Understanding of laboratory facilities, lab equipment and safety systems and procedures, shipping and receiving practices (including DOT and other regulations)

Ability to multitask and work to deadlines in a dynamic environment

Self-motivated and resourceful

Excellent interpersonal skills

Ability to independently manage workflow to see projects through from start to completion

Comfort with various computer operating systems and laboratory operational platforms

Strong written and oral communication skills

Some weekend work required (as needed)

Ability to lift 50 pounds

Occasional travel to Needham Facility in Massachusetts as required
