Job Summary
As part of the R&D team, the Sr Scientist position will drive research projects aimed at developing the expansion of our immunological reagents portfolio while providing documentation accordingly to ISO standards. The role will be responsible for conducting research and development related to small scale expression and purification of proteins using insect cell culture, including protein characterization and functional assay development. The position will be required to work independently at the bench as well as effectively collaborate through communication of scientific findings to internal and external groups.

This position will collaborate with the Immuno Research and Development team members to design experiments, execute experiments, and analyze generated data for assigned projects.
The position will collaborate with different internal groups including Manufacturing and Quality to complete development projects.
Line Management
This position reports to the Director, Immuno R&D Lifescience
This position can be an independent contributor or manage Senior Research Associates and Research Associates as assigned.
Key Duties
Assist the Director on a variety of scientific projects
Provides technical leadership for allocated new product development activities
Establishes and disseminate technical knowledge and good laboratory practices in the group.
Follows independently SOP (protocols, MSOP and ASOP)
Independent troubleshooting of experiment
Keep accurate laboratory records
Work to ISO13485 standards and understand their requirements
Participation in general laboratory meetings
Design, develop and optimize processes for the expression and purification of new proteins in insect cells.
Support scale-up activities for large scale protein manufacturing.
Develop methodologies that characterize protein expression and protein quality.
Perform routine laboratory maintenance and management including ordering of materials, consumables stock monitoring, cleaning, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extensive hands-on experience with cloning, protein expression, and purification using insect cell expression systems such as S2, Sf9 or Sf21.
Strong skills for expression of proteins in Baculovirus/Insect cell systems, this includes virus generation and amplification using pFastBac or similar systems.
Demonstrated ability to purify and characterize proteins. A knowledge of AKTA systems preferred.
Working knowledge of bioprocessing including process scale up preferred.
Demonstrated ability to design, document, and execute experiments. Must be able to accurately analyse and interpret generated results.
Work effectively in collaborative environment, communicate scientific findings freely, and instruct/train personnel as required.
Open to learn and develop new techniques to support the development and improvement of immunological IVD reagents.
Well-organized, able to manage multiple projects, calm under pressure.
Proficient in technical writing, concise and accurate oral and written reporting of technical data.
Demonstrate ownership of activities and responsibilities
Good understanding of chemical principles involved in protein expression and purification.
Education and Experience:
A Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. from an accredited institution in a relevant scientific discipline such as Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Protein Chemistry, etc. is required.
Required is 10+ years of relevant research or industrial experience with a bachelors, 8+ years with a Masters, or 2+ years with a Ph.D.
Life science, Biotech or similar industry experience would be preferred
Requirements (Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands):
Travel
Travel is minimal. Travel between business units, travel to scientific meetings, or travel for commercial meetings may be required.
Physical
Primary work requirements include working in a laboratory setting.
Must be able to perform repetitive movements including pipetting and typing.
Ability to concentrate, analyze, and solve complex issue throughout the day.
Other
May be required to work outside of normal business hours when needed and to support business needs.
