About the role:
The A.V. Club, one of digital media’s most distinctive and respected entertainment brands, is looking for a Los Angeles-based Film Editor. The person in this position will oversee the site’s coverage of new releases for theaters and streaming services, with a laser focus on the franchises, projects, directors and stars that drive pop culture.
The Film Editor will be expected to develop smart, timely and in-depth features for a range of titles, from major blockbusters to indie sensations. The person in this role will also manage The A.V. Club’s extensive film review coverage from staff and freelance contributors and will coordinate the site’s in-depth packages from major film festivals and awards shows.
The ideal candidate will be a strong writer and editor who also has a clear and ambitious vision for The A.V. Club’s Film section. They’ll possess a deep understanding of the site’s unique voice and an ability to reach dedicated fans as well as casual movie-goers.
Core Responsibilities
Write, assign and edit compelling content that takes fans inside their favorite films, franchises and genres.
Strong advance planning for upcoming releases and events.
Provide smart ideas for features, interviews, special reports and seasonal packages.
Oversee a large and diverse stable of freelance writers and critics and provide mentoring and coaching as needed.
Develop and maintain relationships with studios, streaming companies and publicists, without sacrificing A.V. Club standards.
Represent The A.V. Club on camera and at events, including moderating panels or other public speaking.
Qualifications
At least three years of experience in entertainment journalism
An exceptional critical voice
Strong organizational skills
Capable of planning and turning around stories ranging from short news pieces to longer features at a quick pace
A clear understanding of journalistic ethics as they relate to cultural criticism and The A.V. Club

We're better together! G/O Media is back in office with 6 work from home days. This role is based in our Los Angeles office.
This is a position covered under the collective bargaining agreement with the Writers Guild of America - East, which establishes the minimum salary for this position at $71,352.
