Software Engineering Internship
Intro to Engineering
There are plenty of technical challenges as we build the next generation of GoCardless, from simplifying how we build banking schemes to optimising the time to render the dashboard.
You will enjoy Engineering at GoCardless if:
You’re looking to be part a great engineering culture within GC and in the wider engineering community;
You enjoy collaborating and learning from people from various backgrounds and experiences;
You want to feel proud of the work you’re doing and its impact on real customers.
We're really proud of our engineering culture at GoCardless. We encourage folk to contribute not only within our own organisation but also to Open Source Software projects (see our Github). Our engineers also regularly share their insights and learnings in post-mortems, conferences, and on our blog
We endeavour to build simple, reliable systems and we believe in using the best technologies for each task. Technologies we use across GoCardless include: Ruby on Rails, Golang, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Postgres, BigQuery, Kubernetes, Elasticsearch, Prometheus, Google Cloud (GCP).
You’re not expected to have expertise in all these technologies. Members of our team have picked up the tools once they’ve started working with the team. If you’re unsure, please apply.
The role
As a Software Engineering Intern at GoCardless, you will be primarily based in the London office. You’ll be treated as a fully fledged member of the team from day one, working on interesting, challenging projects that are integral to our product and to the company’s success. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers and we’ll encourage you to learn new technologies and expand your awareness of the full stack.
You’ll also get an insight into how a scale-up in the Fintech space works and how the different areas of our business interact.
You should apply if:
You have a foundation of knowledge in coding and software development, and are keen to build on this with our support
you’re passionate about technology
you’re constantly looking for ways to improve
you’ve experimented with building applications for the web
you believe that code must be well-tested, and that tests are a helpful tool in driving design
We’ll consider applicants for placements lasting for 12 weeks or longer and we’ll pay £52000/year (pro-rata). We are looking for the Interns to join us in January 2023.
The application process will consist of the following:

1h Pair programming interview
1h Technical + Foundational skills interview
